Karnataka is one of the leading states for MD/MS admission through NEET PG, offering a large number of postgraduate seats in both government and private medical colleges. Admission is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) based on the NEET PG merit list and applicable eligibility criteria.
The state attracts thousands of aspirants every year because of its reputed government medical colleges, extensive private medical education network, and wide range of postgraduate specialties. However, admission is not as straightforward as many candidates assume. Eligibility rules, seat categories, fee structures, reservation policies, and admission opportunities vary across government and private colleges. Understanding these differences is essential before participating in Karnataka NEET PG counselling.
This guide provides complete information on MD/MS admission in Karnataka 2026, including government and private medical colleges, eligibility criteria, important dates, documents required, fee structure, seat availability, cutoff trends, bond and stipend details, and official counselling resources. Whether you are a Karnataka candidate or an eligible applicant from another state, this article will help you understand the admission process and make informed counselling decisions.
Karnataka has consistently remained one of the top destinations for postgraduate medical admission because of the availability of a large number of MD/MS seats and a well-established medical education system. The state has several reputed government medical colleges and a strong network of private institutions that offer training across almost every clinical and non-clinical specialty.
Some of the major advantages of pursuing MD/MS in Karnataka include:
Large number of postgraduate medical seats.
Reputed government and private medical colleges.
Good clinical exposure in most teaching hospitals.
Transparent online counselling conducted by KEA.
Multiple seat categories in private medical colleges.
Wide choice of specialties and colleges.
At the same time, candidates should evaluate colleges based on factors such as patient load, academics, faculty, infrastructure, stipend, bond conditions, and overall training quality instead of relying only on previous-year cutoffs.

Government Medical College MD/MS Fees in Karnataka
Government medical colleges in Karnataka offer postgraduate medical education at a significantly lower tuition fee than private medical colleges. Because of the affordable fee structure, excellent clinical exposure, and strong academic environment, these colleges remain the first preference for most NEET PG aspirants. Admission is based on NEET PG merit and KEA counselling, subject to the applicable eligibility criteria.
Although government colleges charge comparatively lower tuition fees, candidates should also consider other expenses such as hostel fees, caution deposit, examination fees, university charges, library fees, and miscellaneous institutional charges. These additional charges vary from one college to another.

Karnataka MD/MS Cutoff
The Karnataka NEET PG cutoff varies every year depending on factors such as the number of applicants, seat availability, branch preference, reservation category, and counselling round. Therefore, candidates should use previous-year cutoffs only as a reference and not as a guarantee of admission.
Karnataka NEET PG Cutoff 2026 for Government Medical College
Government medical colleges generally have the highest competition. Clinical branches such as MD Radiology, MD Dermatology, MD General Medicine, MS Orthopaedics, MS General Surgery, MD Paediatrics, and MS Obstetrics & Gynaecology usually close at much better ranks than non-clinical branches.
